Not every kitchen renovation requires a complete strip-out and replacement. In fact, some of the most impressive transformations come from making the most of what's already there.
This Hampshire kitchen had served its owners well for over 20 years, but it was beginning to show its age. The layout no longer suited modern living, the cabinetry felt dated, and the overall design lacked the style and functionality expected from a contemporary kitchen.
The homeowners wanted to retain some of the original character of the space while achieving a fresh, modern look. By reusing the existing carcass units and redesigning the kitchen around them, we delivered a stunning transformation for approximately half the cost of a completely new kitchen installation.
Before: Dated Design and Limited Functionality
The original kitchen had been designed with accessible living in mind, resulting in unusually low worktop heights and wall units positioned lower than modern standards.
The kitchen featured:
Over 20-year-old cabinetry and fittings

While the existing carcasses remained structurally sound, almost every visible element was ready for an upgrade.

The transformation focused on modernising the appearance while significantly improving practicality and storage.
Key upgrades included:
Raising all base unit heights by approximately 15cm to achieve a more comfortable modern working height
Raising the wall units to create additional workspace and improve proportions
Removing all existing doors, worktops, appliances and hardware
Installing brand-new 18mm Modern Shaker Style Doors finished in Matte Alabaster
Replacing all plinths, side panels and end panels
Creating a new open shelving area to introduce lightness and visual interest
Adding new storage units and doors to improve organisation
Installing a completely new island to provide valuable extra storage
Fitting new 12mm Compact Laminate Worktops for a sleek contemporary finish
Installing a new undermounted sink and tap
Upgrading all major appliances including:
Integrated washing machine
Slimline dishwasher
Oven
Induction hob
Extractor fan
Creating an overhanging island worktop to provide casual dining and seating space
Installing LED under-cabinet lighting for improved ambience and functionality
Finishing the kitchen with stylish splashback tiles for a timeless and easy-to-maintain finish
The result is a kitchen that feels completely new while retaining the foundations of the original space.

The Matte Alabaster shaker doors introduce a timeless elegance that suits both traditional and contemporary interiors, while the new island creates a natural focal point and social hub for the room.
By raising the cabinetry and introducing modern storage solutions, the kitchen now functions far more effectively for everyday life. The addition of compact laminate worktops, integrated appliances and subtle lighting details elevates the space further, creating a kitchen that feels both premium and practical.
Most importantly, the homeowners achieved the look and functionality of a brand-new kitchen while saving thousands compared to a full replacement.
